WHAT A WEEKEND!? – The Hungry Runner Girl

It’s official: I am ready to become a spectator for every mountain biking race that Andrew ever wants to do (I’ve been sending him links to races in Whistler… I’m dying to go there). It was so much fun. The community, the excitement, the inspiration, the camaraderie, I’m ready to sign up for one myself as soon as I forget about flying over my handlebars the last time I attempted to mountain bike.

I got out early for a run before the craziness began. I woke up with so much nervous energy for Andrew and his race that I needed to run out my nerves so they weren’t contagious for him.

I love it here.

This is precisely where I would choose to rest, with multiple beds and couches a few steps away.

Brooke’s dad flew out to do the race, too! On Andrew’s birthday, they were out on a shake-out ride and then having the time of their lives with everyone together all day, and I laughed to myself about how wild this life is and how grateful I am for how things have all worked out. Andrew and Billy are great friends, and Brooke is the happiest girl on the planet to spend time all together with her people. It was such a fun weekend for everyone!

And then they were off! Andrew is going to write a full race recap… get excited.

Their race was 50 miles, but a group that did 100 miles started about an hour before them.

Is there anything better than McDonald’s hash browns?

I made so many wrong turns on our hunt to spectate but we made it to a few spots (and missed them by a few minutes at one place). I’m dedicating all my efforts to becoming the all-star spectator that Andrew is at my races, it’s just going to take a little practice.

These kids are troopers. We were out from start to finish for 8 hours (raced for 6 hours, but we got there early and stayed afterward).

Their favorite part was climbing on all the rocks in this small canyon between sightings.

I didn’t expect to need a rest on the dirt, but it happened, and I felt much better afterward;)

My brother and their crew came to the finish line.

Thank you to Find My Friends for making it a tiny bit easier to find out where in the world Andrew was during the race.

Fast-forward to the evening, and Skye had been dying to return to the stairs. My brother and his daughter recently took Skye’s record, and so she was excited to reclaim the crown. She did these stairs eight times on Saturday night. Megan D and I joined her (her husband did the race, too—we called it Andrew’s birthday party), and we had a very difficult time keeping up with her.

While on the stairs, we ran into a dear friend I’ve known since I was 5. She even lived with us in my parents’ house for a time—that’s how close we have been. She was in town visiting and doing the stairs at the same time as us. What are the odds?

Tell me about your weekend!

Doing anything fun for St. Patrick’s Day?

Does your family have any competitions?

-I’m a little concerned about how many times we will be going up and down those stairs in a few years…

What’s your run today?
