(REI Exclusive) Altra Lone Peak 9+ — Men’s & Women’s: $155
In short, the Altra Lone Peak 9+ is the Lone Peak 9 with a Vibram Megagrip outsole and a revised, lighter Altra EGO midsole foam for more ground feel. The uppers have no-sew overlays and a ripstop mesh upper for miles of durability. Of course, you get Altra’s foot shape with a roomy toebox and zero drop. Fans of this popular trail shoe will appreciate a version with more grip and connection to the trail.
The Saucony Guide 18 is Saucony’s maximal support, max cushioned everyday trainer’s eighteenth iteration. The proven concept, especially among new runners, puts the brand’s PWRRUN foam under a breathable and supportive mesh upper. Underfoot, the Center Path technology creates an asymmetric geometry to keep the foot centered for a more consistent, balanced stride.
This latest version also uses XT-900 carbon rubber outsoles for a boost in durable traction. The shoe has a stack height of 35 millimeters at the heel and 29 millimeters at the toe for a 6-millimeter drop.
A neutral, max cushion road shoe, the Asics Novablast 5 mixes soft landings with a peppy rebound from its trampoline-inspired outsole. A rockered toe helps turnover as well.
The upper is made from a breathable jacquard, which is at least 75% recycled material that stretches with your foot. Similarly, the tongue wing construction flexes with strides to help it stay in place. The shoe has a 41.5- and 33.5-millimeter stack height at the heel and toe respectively, for an 8-millimeter drop.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 road running shoe prioritizes stability and support from a medium cushion construction. Updates to the outsole and midsole designs include a nitrogen-infused DNA LOFT v3 midsole foam for smooth cushioning that adapts to your particular stride for miles of comfort.
The brand’s GuideRails Holistic Support System tech provides stability by encouraging forward movement. The shoe has a 35.5- and 23.5-millimeter stack height at the heel and toe for a 12-millimeter drop.
Topo Athletic Ultraventure 4 — Men’s & Women’s: $150
Trail runners looking for a lightweight, yet max-cushioned shoe, should consider the Topo Athletic Ultraventure 4. The build includes recycled mesh uppers with a polyurethane print for structure, OrthoLite Performance insoles, and ZipFoam midsoles for a soft yet responsive feel.
Underfoot, Vibram XS Trek EVO outsoles provide multisurface traction and durability. The shoe has a 35- and 30-millimeter stack height at the heel and toe for a 5-millimeter drop.

The front body and sleeves are made from a lightweight, recycled polyester knit with the brand’s wicking FlashDry tech, while the back and underarms use a lighter recycled jersey knit with FlashDry Pro.
