Folding a More Affordable Wheelchair
A new wheelchair prototype from wheelchair user and assistive technology pioneer Rory Cooper takes its inspiration from Japanese kirigami paper cutting and folding. The unique technique allows Cooper’s team to produce a custom wheelchair in four hours or less using a single sheet of aluminum. They hope the technique can play a role in making manual wheelchairs more affordable.
