Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as Lobstein disease, brittle-bone disease, blue-sclera syndrome, and fragile-bone disease, is a disease that causes weak bones that break easily. Sometimes the bones break for no known reason. At least eight recognized forms of osteogenesis imperfecta are designated type I through type VIII. The types can be distinguished by their signs and symptoms, although their characteristic features overlap.

Symptoms found in various types of OI can include whites of the eye (sclerae) that are blue instead, short stature (Short stature is a hallmark of the moderate-to-severe forms of OI (Famous People Who Have or Had Dwarfism)), loose joints, hearing loss, breathing problems and problems with the teeth (dentinogenesis imperfecta). A person with OI has a 50% chance of passing on the gene and the disease to their children.
