Not A Wheelchair Offers Affordable Wheelchair Wheels and Wooden Handrims

Not A Wheelchair, the company that recently began offering a custom manual wheelchair starting at $999, is branching out into wheelchair components. They’re now selling affordable rear wheels and wooden handrims.

Not A Wheelchair’s Revolution wheels are made by Vapor Wheels’ and feature a lightweight, minimalist design, with aluminum rims and spokes. They come with high-pressure tubes, low-profile Schwalbe RightRun tires and black anodized-aluminum handrims. Total cost is $350.

Not A Wheelchair also offers wooden handrims in five different colors — natural, black, green, blue and red. They’re shaped with flat sides and a rounded push surface. Wooden handrims typically offer a better hand-feel than metal or vinyl-coated options; don’t transfer temperature, so aren’t freezing in cold weather; and offer good pushing and braking performance in wet conditions. They do, however, heat up while braking, moreso than metal rims. Not a Wheelchair’s wooden handrims are priced at $199, less than half the price of Lignorims, the other wooden handrim currently on the market.

“Our wooden handrims are a ‘classy yet rugged’ accessory that adds some personality and unique customizability in the active wheelchair space,” says Zack Neslon, founder of Not A Wheelchair. “Typically wheelchairs have cold, hard metal push rim, and it’s nice to have a warmer outdoorsy option. Especially in winter.”

You can buy the Revolution Wheels and Wooden Handrims directly from the Not A Wheelchair website.
